Dead Pixels in New DS Lite June 12, 2006

Filed under: Nintendo DS — Hochiminh @ 9:43 pm

The same thing that was wrong with the DS is occurring with the DS Lite.  I still haven’t tried a DS Lite yet, but I wonder if this “dead pixel” occurrence is only a selected few and not too many.

A Kotaku reader who barely escaped with his life from Nintendo World yesterday wrote in to regale us with his harrowing tale. Take it away, Jeremy:

Picked up my DS Lite at the Nintendo World (NYC) this afternoon. They had approximately 1.2 bajillion of them, no shortage in sight. Walked a few blocks, sat down, and turned it on. A dead pixel! A few hours later, walk back to the store to exchange it…the helpful employee begins the exchange process, and a manager type fellow walks over. They look at each other, he in hushed tones asks, “Another one”, to which was replied, “Uh huh”, to which both rolled eyes and shook their heads. None of my probing could get an answer other than “I plead the fifth”. Seems like this may be a more serious problem.

Now, were they rudely catting about our dear reader’s justifiable request for a new DS, having dealt with general retail annoyances all day, or were they referring to a more serious dead pixel problem? Weigh in, commentors, who’s got dead pixels on their Lites?

I have my DS Lite and I haven’t seen a single thing wrong w/ it. Have a couple of friends that all got one and no dead pixels in theirs either. In fact, the Gamestop I work at hasn’t had any confirmations of there being dead pixels in any of the Lite’s they have sold (well, at least no customers have brought any back to complain) so it seems that the problem is few and far between.
