GameStop: “75 calls a day about Wii, 2 calls about PS3″ January 12, 2007

“The employees of that store and others report that while they’re still fielding a high number of Wii-related calls during each day, they can go an entire day without any inquiries at all about the PS3. One store showed me a scratch pad they kept by the phone one day, making marks for each Wii call and PS3 call they received. At the end of that day the Wii had gotten 75, while the PS3 came in at 2.”

I’d like to own a PS3, but after much consideration the price was too high.
I bought my Wii for a few good reasons:
1) My wife likes NES games; with Virtual Console her wants are met
2) I have soon to be 3 year old and I wanted something he can play with out me freaking about the price equpiment
3) Gets me off my ass
4) Of course, “price is right, bob”
Doom and Gloom for PS3. You just made my day mate. x3
I worked for Best Buy up until a month ago. The week before I left (2 weeks before Christmas) we brought out 20 PS3s. We put them on the shelf and people kept coming up to us asking if we had Wiis. We would tell them, “no, but we’ve got PS3s.” They would call to check with someone and then say, nah we need a Wii. It took like 2 hours 2 weeks before Christmas to sell out of 20 PS3s. The demand just was never there after the launch.
I work at the EB on South Street in Philly and we also kept a similar tally sheet. Even after the holiday season we were got over 50 calls from 11 in the morning till 3 in the afternoon… That was when we stopped counting! haha
I currently work at GameStop and it got so bad with people calling about the Wii the one of my co-workers just picked up the phone and yelled “NO” and then slammed the phone down.
That picture looks just like how it looks at a BestBuy store near here. Wii Accessories between the Wii games and DS games. No remotes, no WIi points cards, no nunchuks, no console systems.
Anyway, now we know for sure Sony’s doing bad sales. It’s a risk they took, and backfired. I’m more interested in what else the head of Sony has to say about this and the Wii.

Yeah, today I also went into Best Buy, and in the middle of the walkway were at least 20 Ps3’s, but no Wiis to be found
