Wii Sports For The Spatially Challenged January 22, 2007

Spatially challenged, but strap protected.

If there’s one thing that I hate about living in New York, it’s the insanely small square footage that you get despite dropping over a thousand a month in rent. Now I’m a simple guy, and I’ve never been bothered by the space, as long as I have a spot for my computer.

Damn, the Wii has sure as hell changed that.

I get pissed off when I see these videos of people with HUGE spaces in front of their televisions, easily handling 4 player tennis sessions. As you can see from the pic, my skinny self can barely fit into the space between my TV and the couch. The camera is sitting on a chair that’s directly to my side, so I effectively have a 5 ft by 5 ft box to work around. Not a lot of real estate to conduct a Wii Sports Experiment of my own.

That bookcase right there? I’ve definitely banged into it while dodging a right hook in Boxing. The couch that’s in back of me? A victim of the Golf back swing, as well as Tennis back hands. The TV itself has been a victim of wild Bowling and Baseball swings.

Of course, one of the pros of being in New York is that I can always play multiplayer Wii / Gamecube games with plenty of space at the World Store, so what the hell am I complaining for :)

    haha, great post reefinyateef.

I totally feel ya. I don’t know if you could tell from those Wii Sports Experiment videos, but I’m in a tight squeeze myself (you take the cake though).

I actually went as far as selling my old couch to get a smaller one, and bought a flat screen TV to gain more room.

If anybody else has a tight squeeze (or funny/odd) Wii setup, post some pics.

When I first got my wii it was hooked up in my room where there is about 2 ft of space between the foot of the bed and the dresser the TV sits on. You should have seen my wife and me playing Wii Sports on our knees atop the matress.

Didn’t take me long to quit being lazy and get the Wii situated with all the other electronics in the living room.

my situation is just like yours… i have to lie on my bed to play wii… so alone its not a problem… in fact i like it very much. but FOUR people on a bed is terrible, but even somehow entertaining (at least for someone who is not on the bed ):)
