Wii News Channel Debuts A Day Early! First Impressions! January 26, 2007
For those who don’t know, the Wii News Channel is now available, one day earlier than the January 27th date that had previously been announced as the release.
While I haven’t had much time to play around with it, I will say the loading screen is a little strange, with a random cat sitting on top of the screen.
But once inside, you can do a slideshow of all the day’s events, which actually brings up the Forcast channel’s globe, and pinpoints where on the map a news headline is taking place. It’s actually a pretty cool way to see what’s happening right now, and where (in case you didn’t know where Los Angeles or New York was). Once it shows you the headline, you can click it for the entire story.
There is also the more traditional view of the headlines, which are divided into the normal categories of world, sports, entertainment, etc.
This is the best I could do as far as a picture of the slideshow feature (cell phone camera) but hopefully this can hold you guys over.

Everyone get home, update, and enjoy!

Nice, but I just read over at Joystiq that one of their readers (Ralph Kruse) discovered some bug:

But there isn’t much of a description and since I don’t have internet on my Wii for the next while I can’t say how to actually produce this.
Yeah, I glanced at my Wii as I was leaving for work and saw that nice ambient blue glow. I love seeing that.
I put a bunch of pictures of the News Channel on my site if you’re interested.

You can see the ambient blue glow 24/7 if you want.
“Go to your email from the home menu, and add your personal computer email address to your address book. Wait ~1 hour for the email (mine took at least this long) Reply to the email from your computer. In a few minutes, you will have an email waiting for you on your Wii. Don’t read it! As long as it remains new, you have a pretty blue light!”
The cat is a hint button.
It also appears in the photochannel sometimes.
the story from syracuse, ny locating itself in italy definitely isn’t a bug… the A P probably just tagged it with the wrong latitude and longitude…
[...] Finally someone has invented a video game that promotes healthy lifestyle by exercise. After you’re done toning those muscles, you can get up-to-date with all your news feeds through the wii channel. If you are viewing this site with a wii, it has the WP wii plugin from David Harper. [...]
Yes if you click on the cat it gives you tips as well as meowing, Also the cats on the loading bar meow when you click them, and if you hold it they continously meow, you can even see thier mouths move.
thanks for the tip mj. but it only took 5 mins to get the email on my laptop, you must have a really weak internet connection
