Individual Rosters Confirmed March 22, 2007

From Nintendo:
Hello,
I can confirm that the Friend Code system in the Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) service
for Wii will be the same as it was for the Nintendo DS, meaning game-specific
Friend Codes and a separate Friend Roster are used in each game where players
can play with identified friends. As with Nintendo DS, the system was created
to ensure the gaming environment is kept fun for everyone.
We have heard from various others like you letting us know how they felt
regarding Nintendo’s implementation of Friend Codes in the Wi-Fi Connection
service for Wii. I want you to know that we appreciate your passion and
concern. Let me assure you that your concerns have been heard and will be
forwarded along. As always, keep an eye on our website (www.nintendo.com) for
the latest developments in Wi-Fi gaming as they are made available.

If they have heard our concerns than why do they not address them by having a universal friend code system? I cannot see the justification for not having a universal friend code system. I accept that Nintendo know better than me on this matter and hopefully reasoning for their determination to have individual friend rosters comes clear when they fully announce their online strategy.

I can very clearly express my utmost distaste for this.
CRAP.
That’s pretty crappy. I would really like to understand the reasoning behind their decision.
I know they have every right to do it however they want, but saying “We’ve heard your concerns and are forwarding them on” pretty much means that they’re ignoring our concerns and will do whatever they please.
Honestly, this is just the way Nintendo operates. I love the company but they are very stubborn. I mean look at the Gamecube. People were begging for online play there with mario kart since it was released and Nintendo never did a thing about it, instead we had to rely on a hack to get online play!
This is one instance where I wish a competitor would gain an obvious advantage on Nintendo. If another company were to have an online gameplay system that was taking away from Nintendo markey share then they might actaully change.
Shanobay: exactly..
Oh wait we already have that. They are called Xbox and Playstation.
Holy Jesus, that’s my Friendcode! O.O
[...] das ist weird. Nein, ich meine nicht Nintendos Entscheidung auf der Wii das gleiche [...]
not really shanobay, we may have xbox, but ps3????hell no
oops, i mean not really deletable man..not shanobay
PS3 home is coming in hot, mark my words. I hope the Mii campaign isn’t the only thing Nintendo plans to combat it. We need more connectivity Nintendo…..please. I guess we won’t know until Pokemon hits.
If you could actually design your own building in Home, then I’d be slightly more interested in it. At the moment it’s just a restricted, better looking Second Life which holds zero interest for me.
@playstar
Hope you don’t mind!
Hey Josh, the most interesting thing I see in Home is that you are able to communicate directly with other gamers (your friend code members). So far Nintendo has nothing like this. This is an extremely valuable feature in creating online communities don’t you think. I could care less if I could build my own house or I’d play The Sims. Neither do I care to hang up and wear billions of Sony ads. But it is obvious to me that Sony has recognized the Mii system as valuable and though their interpretation may be too complex for most to fully utilize they are making an attempt to stay on top.
Another thing is that they have virtually stolen everything (except the wiimote and maybe some of the fun) that Nintendo had going for it in Wii Sports as sad as it may seem. You can now play bowling, pool, even driving lanes with anyone in the Home universe (we can’t do that with Sports yet). The VC has been robbed with its arcade and even Xbox has been theived in its award system for completing games. Sure we can say that they don’t have an original idea but the thing is they are bringing everything together for their gamers in order to stay on top. Nintendo cannot get comfortable on the top and it would behoove them more than ever to listen to the now over 6 million users of their product.
I have faith in Reggie’s leadership this time around as he has slowly chipped away at the stubborn facade of Nintendo. Most importantly Nintendo has become extremely concerned with more personal multiplayer experiences instead of a catering to a loner style fan base like Sony has.
Whats the point in having friend codes, they will always be preditors, and they will find ways of getting the kids dont u worry
That “fun for everyone” excuse is really getting on my nerves. Forcing multiple codes on us for no good reason will sap any sort of fun to be had out of online play for the Wii.
I really hope they change their mind fast about this, otherwise online play will be ruined.
Well, well…
You see, there are Nintendo games where a “visitor” can really screw you up (like Animal Crossing). So, you maybe trust someone enough to give him “access” to all games, but there may be some people you have fun racing against (whatever) but don’t want them to f**k up you little cute AC-town in revenge for losing a Mario Kart round. See?
Not that I actually like the system by Nintendo, but it makes sense.
