guitar heroIn an interview with IGN, RedOctane’s co-founder and president Kai Huang has confirmed that the Wii version of Guitar Hero III uses a guitar peripheral and has online elements.

Guitar Hero III is scheduled to hit PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii in Autumn this year. However, many were left wondering whether the Wii version would require a guitar peripheral - like previous Guitar Hero titles - or utilize the console’s Wiimote.

While the development team is still exploring innovative ways to use the remote, Kai Huang told us: “We are really excited about the Wii game because there are so many options for the Wii remote. However, you will play the game with a guitar peripheral and it will be similar to a guitar you’ve seen in the past.”

He also confirmed that Guitar Hero III on Wii contains features included in other versions of the upcoming game - such as online play and downloadable music.

IGN will have the full interview up later today

Gamepolitics has some extra news: wireless controllers (sort of obvious) and a DS version!

“When the third iteration in the series arrives this holiday season for 360, PS3, Wii and PS2, it’ll also come with a wireless controller for the first time—something that fans have been requesting for quite some time. Huang said they’re going wireless “so that fans can finally rock out in their living room and jump off their couches and do all that crazy rock star stuff.”

As for the next game’s song selection, Huang promised that RedOctane is pushing hard to get the bands that many have been clamoring for. “We’ve got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have, in particular, we’ve been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, so hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish, and everybody’s wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game,” he said.”

I’m glad its gonna have the guitar. It just wouldn’t be the same without it. I was bummed when I heard the new DK bomgos game on wii wouldn’t have the bongos but use the wii controller instead.

Of course this is great news, plus I love the song list they are pushing for this time around (can’t go wrong with Zeppelin). Question: Considering the Wiimote retails for about $39.99, what can we expect from a wireless guitar? Hopefully the consumer won’t take a huge hit for this upgrade. I’m thinking $10 more would be in line. Plus you’ll likely still be able to use the original guitar as it had some sensitivity when tilting.

2 words….hell yes, this is exactly what i wanted to hear…exactly, uses the guitar and online play…WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!

What would be really cool would be some movment elament in to the game for the wii, for example have half the screen the oraganl cords, and on the other half like a guiter movment screen (to make it look like a real rock concert). but it might become complicated to look at 2 screens at once, but it would be cool.

My god… They’d better come through for all of us rockin’ Nintendo fans or I’m gonna have to start a large-scale riot and force them to make this… I’d pay a good $80-90 for this… I really wish I hadn’t heard about this, now I can’t wait…
