Goldeneye on the VC a possibility? May 7, 2007

Recently Rare commented on the possibility of Goldeneye 007 coming to the Virtual Console. The comment was made on a Q&A feature on Rareware’s website where the developer was asked about the possibility of the game making its way onto the Wii’s download service.
“The only Rare-developed title on Virtual Console right now is the original Donkey Kong Country, and unofficially there’s a strong likelihood that its sequels will follow. But the Donkey Kong series of games is a Nintendo-owned franchise starring an established Nintendo character, whereas something like Banjo isn’t (and even Diddy Kong Racing is less clear-cut), so it’s nowhere near as easy to call.â€?
It was also mentioned that since there is the existence of Xbox Live Arcade there could also be the possibility of the game going to that service too, though it would be strange to see a Nintendo game on Microsoft’s download service since Nintendo is still a direct competitor of theirs in the console business.
Who ever gets the game (hopefully Nintendo) I hope and pray they add an online gameplay feature!

well that is one good way for RARE to make some money on an old product. nintendo is thier best bet over Xbox. for most NIntendo fans did not go out and by a 360 as much as a wii. so the people who played that game Bfore would have the Wii. aslo wasnt Didy knong just on the DS i want to see an new 1 on wii.
You know, I love Nintendo and would love for Goldeneye to come out on the Virtual Console–but I also love Goldeneye and would kill to be able to play it online against some of my buddies.
The chances of that happening on the Wii are slim to none, so as much as it pains me to say this…I’d rather have it come out for XBLA.
@ tratch
I don’t own an bxob 360 but I have to agree with you there. The chances of it having multiplayer are probably a lot better on the xbox.
I don’t see it happening there are too many parts to get this to work. You would need,
1. Nintendo
2. Microsoft
3. Rare
4. Whoever currently owns the bond license (EA or Activision I think)
All to come together to make this a possibility. I just don’t see them all working together to make this happen, but I would love to be proven wrong.
Don’t cut the baby in half. Either release it on the Wii with online capabilities (the only reason for the majority of GoldenEye’s core audience to double dip on this one) or release it to an all new audience on the 360 and make more money. It’s as simple as that from an economics stand point.
I’ll buy it online or not if it’s released on VC, but I would KILL for this game with online multiplayer.
Diddy Kong was originally on N64, the Ds version was a remake.
I’d love to see Goldeneye on the VC, and I doubt Nintendo or Microsoft wouldn’t allow the other to have the game, especially since it was on N64 first.
I’d love to see the two Banjo games on the VC as well.
Online play is no biggie anyway.
Online GoldenEye is better played on PC anyway.
So check out the HL2 mod of GoldenEye here:

Only problem is GoldenEye doesn’t play like CS.
