Ubisoft on Wii: “We Made Mistakes” May 30, 2007
Publisher Ubisoft was one of the first third parties to recognize the potential of Nintendo’s Wii console and back the platform with a wealth of titles. The company’s headlining launch games, Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, were both exclusively created for Wii and have in the six months since they released each become million-sellers around the world. However, many of the developer’s other efforts - all of them quick and unimpressive ports of previously released games on other systems - have faired poorly both from a critical and retail perspective. In an interview with leading German news magazine Spiegel, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and European head Alain Corre admitted that the publisher was too quick to rush these titles to the market.

Remember these screens! Red Steel, you could have been the Wii’s GoldenEye 007
“We made mistakes,” they told the magazine. According to Spiegel, Ubisoft wanted to be first to capitalize on Wii and in its haste to release product it sacrificed the quality of the titles. Ubisoft has reportedly learned from its mistakes, though, and is promising that the quality of its forthcoming Wii projects will be significantly better.

Serves you right! Come on, Ubisoft, why’d you had to slack on Red Steel? Not even a little bit of doubt. Well surely the next installment will be considered better than the first one, at least.
I’m really looking forward to Red Steel 2, no matter what. More fun multiplayer options, please! and codes like DK mode! \:D/

Red Steel was definitely a hallmark game! Congrats on one million! As for their other games, I have GT Pro Series and Far Cry: Vengeance, with the latter being a very exceptional game. I liked it! Not all their games are bad.
I rented out Red Steel a few weeks ago, and I loved it, I don’t see what’s wrong with it.
I’m almost sure they are talking graphics, I own both…
I hated Red Steel, it could’ve been so much more. Rayman is fun and GT Pro is awful. Far Cry Vengeance just isn’t good enough as a shooter, just OK.
Yeah I also don´t get what´s wrong with Red Steel. I like it.
Well obviously there wasn’t anything significantly wrong with either red steel or rayman as they are both MILLION sellers. Does anyone read the news before posting?!? Your personal opinions aside, Ubisoft sees those two games as hits while all their OTHER efforts as misses. Again read the article. If you notice Far Cry Vengeance is not only a terrible port of the original in every way beyond graphics, it is a terrible product seen in its low ratings (worst rated Wii title) and its price at stores. Every store I’ve seen it in it had its price slashed considerably. If anyone lives near a Nebraska Furniture Mart on Memorial Day they had it for about $20 but I picked up Paper Mario and Star Fox on the Gamecube for $10 each instead.
