Nintendo Confirms “WiiWare”, Downloadable Content! June 27, 2007

Officials from Nintendo have confirmed plans to release original downloadable content on the Wii, with an announcement today at a private Nintendo developer conference.
The company describes WiiWare as a “game-creation service that will allow developers of all sizes to create downloadable games content for sale by Nintendo through the Wii Shop Channel.
In a press statement Nintendo suggests that WiiWare will pave the way for “smaller, more creative games at lower prices and without any inventory risk to developer. Despite the announcement today, though, the first WiiWare content will not be launched until early 2008.
“Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners.”

I hope they release the dev software before 2008. meaning ppl can start working on games long before the first one is released ‘08
This is going to be great! Don’t forget people, we’re already in the middle of 07, so 08 is only 6 months away.
I hope devs are working on games right now.
They already have mods for PC games using the wiimote
so im sure they are already working on orginal content.
I wonder if they will let the games use the wifi… hmmmm
wow this is great news i just wonder how the final product is gonna be like
Is this for homebrew as well or just indie developers?
So my question really is: is it XNA for Nintendo or more like XBLA?
Is it downloading content for games you already own, or downloading small games much like VC?
Yay this is good news but is it free
i think this will be a little bit more for indie than homebrew.
it will most likely be small games since content for games would be downloaded thru an interface in the game (mp3). although i could see some homebrew stuff getting out there if it impressed nintendo. now if its free is another question…
