Check your Wii - New Channel! August 10, 2007
Wii owners everywhere should be waking up to the waxing and waning of an electric blue light this morning. Nintendo sent out a friendly message to let everyone know that a knew, free, channel was up for download. The channel is a Metroid Prime : Corruption preview channel. It has two videos up for download, with two unavailable until August 13th.
Nintendo mentioned the release of Metroid (NES) on the virtual console this coming Monday, August 13th, as well as the release of Super Metroid (SNES), the following week August 20th. Inside the channel fans are treated to a customized cursor and background, and a simple painting game, in addition to the videos.
All of this is, of course, leading up to the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on August 27th, 2007.

The channel even updates itself, getting new videos on August 13th.
Mabey it’s just me, but I think this is crap, I mean, for one, there should be a whole channel for videos, not one channel for each game, and for another, it should be a playable demo, not a trailer.
I think bigger news than this is after the 3.0U update, there an option in parental controls to turn on or off online user communication.
Finally, Super Metroid will be coming to VC! I’ve been waiting for so long!
I wish I had wireless… grrrrrr…
sounds pretty cool though, specially since people were moaning about the lack of oomph/advertisement for metroid, I think they’ll probably use this channel for all videos once more big titles start coming out
i think it’s an “Americas” only channel becouse here in europe i can’t find it
There are unusable up/down arrows on the left side that make me think there’s more to come.
Nintendo is annoying me in ways that are unbelievable.
I can sort of understand why this isn’t available in Europe yet since we are getting a late September releases, but considering the bad advertising they did in the US they could at least do something in the EU now.
I tried other countries to see if I could access it, because sme people said if you switch to Liechtenstein and certain others you could download it, well you definately can’t since Liechtenstein doesn’t even offer the Wii Shop Channel.
Awful job Nintendo, really great how you keep on shafting the EU. I now know that I will not buy the next Nintendo console, nor any after that.
hmmmm….The corruption trailer(The first one)is a little creepy……”She likes it”and who was that woman talking? was it samus?
My keyboard stopped working on the Wii after I downloaded this… I don’t know if there is a connection…
@ MJ
Stop moaning.
You got strikers how soon before us over here?
Along with a few other games!?
You don’t have it bad.
As for the news, this is great. I hope this is leading up to a new style for the wii.
Something along the lines of DEMOS!?
I used to play my PSX demos probably an hour each, I loved them, no matter what game it was.
Thank you Wishale
I 100% agree.
I think we will get the channel in a few hours or so as of the time difference here in europe. Perhaps
A dream come true for any die hard Metroid fan! Too bad two of the videos aren’t showed until the 13th, but the other two were aswome! And if you click the little blinking blue light on the right where you pick the video you want to watch, it lets you play a weird tile game!
@Mj: Is it me, or are you always whining about everything? You should be happy you have a Wii! You’ll most likely get it soon, so stop complaining!
Read my comment…^
I was sorta worried when I read this and didn’t have the channel yet, but I went to the Wii shop and was able to download it.
@Wishale: Not everybody likes MarioStrikers that much. PaperMario, when released in US, didn’t even have a release date in EU (now 9/14), and SSBB will be somewhen in 2008 (as if Q1 2008 would be an impossible task).
NintendoEurope was offline for nearly two months due to some “security hole” and that’s (together with vague release dates) why most people think, that Nintendo doesn’t care for Europe. Nintendo just announced, that they will not have a press conference at Germany’s Games Convention, not even some local release dates.
AND we pay 45€ = 60$ for MarioParty, hell, WiiFit will be sold for 70€ (90$) here for sure. I gotta get started shitting money
I’m whining too, but not because of that channel solely - it’s just filling europe’s barrel-of-whinage!
I would assume that EU isn’t getting that much love for the same reason countries outside of US and Japan. Its all about catering to your largest market share and everyone knows who the most consoles are being bought up by. Maybe in the years to come EU will become a stronger gaming center in the world and companies residing there will become the heavy hitting leaders. Also consider Nintendo is more heavily based in Japan and the US so of course these countries get the most exposure. Until then it will remain like any other product sold worldwide, seperate release dates and selective marketing. Why do you think more games are produced in Asia and aren’t marketed all over the world? I think EU will see more support even as Nintendo further grows into a video gaming super power once again.
As for this latest offering to the Wii, I think its an awesome idea that will hopefully become more of the norm than the exception. I love the idea of all the channels working together (VC/Demo) in order to crisson the next great Wii release. We should be excited to get all three games to the console this month. Can’t wait for the NES Metroid myself. I think people should really appreciate Nintendo’s effort to offer this content in anticipation of their next killer app. This week has really brought home the sense that the Wii is striving to cater to more sophisticated gaming audiences in this way, as they could have easily dumbed down the content with another voting channel. Quit your whining or otherwise give that Wii to one of the millions who would much rather appreciate it more than you. Nuff said.
Just like europeans to complain all the time. We don’t get most japanese made games on time. This one is u.s. made, of course we get it first. Have nintendo of europe make a game and see how long it takes for us to get it.
Another reason we europeans cant get games as early as everyone else is because they have to translate it into all the languages in the EU! I live in the UK and before I knew this couldnt understand why the game took so long when they could have released it in UK straight after USA. Although the late arrival of super paper mario, I personnely think is a little too late
oh well cant complain because nintendos games are so good they keep me entertained till the next one comes out!
@Kelly: Batallion Wars II would be a european developer - announced in Germany at GC 2006, release date for US (10/29/07) and release date for europe: Q4 2007. Again the the same procedure
@Sir Lantis: Granted. But warshark makes a good point. There’s more translating to do. If you were to get the games before us then our version would still be done ahead of yours. And that means it would be sitting on the shelf until yours is done. That would not only be bad business, but a little immature as well. About your previous comment about mario strikers not being liked by everyone, that doesn’t matter. That doesn’t negate the fact that it came out there first. And for the record, it did very well here. So a lot of people liked it.
this is kool i know this is off topic but will the ssbb demo only be for vthe ds or for the wii (on the everybodys nintendo channel)
