Metroid Prime Preview Channel, So What !?! August 13, 2007

I understand that Nintendo is trying to drum up some hype about MP3, but I don’t think the channel did anything serious for the sales of the game. I think that anyone who has a wii and wasn’t going to buy MP3 did not download the channel and for anyone who is it wasn’t much. The videos weren’t a big deal, although I do give them credit for trying. The videos weren’t that great. I liked seeing them because I havent heard much about the game since E3, but I would have liked to see real live gameplay instead of just a teaser trailer. The bridge scene didn’t show much other than some constant shooting. I would have liked to see some big info on the game or maybe a cut scene with some intense dialouge. Back to marketing, they would have been better off putting this on their homepage or sending the footage to IGN. The only place the game was mentioned was on the Nintendo forums and a little sidenote on IGN. They should try to market the game to the people who don’t have wiis. They are the people that need convincing. I’m hoping that tomorrows new videos will showcase the game better. Also maybe sometime we could also see commercial, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Don’t forget though that there 2 more trailers to go.
How does this classify as news? and besides, at least they tried, and I really liked the movies!
it’s not news thats why it’s under rants opinions.
all im saying is I was dissappointed by the channel, I’m hoping that the vids tomorrow will prove me wrong.
I just wish they had a little level demo…..where you could actually try a little of the game out….ahh well
if they had a demo, then that would take up a lot of memory, even without saving progress on it. I don’t see why people say they need a demo, it looked great before, and the videos made it look better
@macharborguy: There are actually more than just 2 more vids. At the download page for the channel click on “more details” and there is a screen showing 8 vids/links.
Unfortunately still not available in Europe. even though we pay €60,- for the game rather than $60,- which means we pay effectively around $80.
No eurolove whatsoever!!!
Nintendo complained that MP2:echoes didn’t sell as well as the first metroid.
This was pretty much their own fault since the second installment was as good as the first one. This third one is also going to bomb if they don’t ramp up the marketing and advertisment. I mean the game comes out around the same time as HALO3 and nobody should be arrogant enough to think that they can go against that title without a very bloody battle.
That being said, of course i will buy the game, I love all the 3d metroids.
@quinnten83; The European release for MP3 is in October, so I’d expect this channel to become available near that time - damn annoying delay though as I’ve had the game pre-ordered since I bought my Wii back in February! Still, at least we’re (finally) getting Trauma Center and Super Paper Mario before then.
I thought the idea was useless as well. You can download videos off the Internet, especially when all the channel does is stream them in low quality. I kind of understand the PS3 store’s HD trailers more.
I’m definitely going to buy Metroid Prime 3 but I have no interest in the channel. Maybe if they’d have added some mini-games or something else like that it would be worth it. But then again there’s still a while before the full game is out in stores so they do have time..

Why would I go download the video off a game site when it is available on my Wii? I can tell you that I never would have seen these videos if it wasn’t for the Preview Channel. I hope Nintendo does things like for for more of its games.
I fail to understand how this is bad for nintendo. What wrong move did they make? Think about it what was the trailer on first, the Wii right ok and shortly after that what was it on then? Exactly it was already out on almost every gaming media that talks about the Wii that you can think of right? Anything that shows up on the Wii shows up elsewhere in the gaming biz. Nintendo was smart for doing this because by doing so they got the best of both worlds.
who ever added the photo… thanks
Well Derec, it depends what you’re closer to more during the day. I work with my computer and when I relax during the evening it’s with the Wii. So personally it’s “easier” to watch on the computer.
I never said it was a bad thing for Nintendo to do (although maybe VMR didn’t mean me), just that having a separate channel for something so small as a video was a bit silly. Maybe have individual downloads for the videos and have them play in the highest resolution possible.
Now I’m going to go read the “counter argument” thing someone posted.
Although generally you don’t see people writing too many rants on main pages of news sites, especially with counter arguments. But hey, it’s your site not mine.
