Wii continues to Dominate. August 23, 2007

Nintendo Co. extended the lead of its Wii video-game console over Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, with stores selling 425,000 machines in the U.S. in July.

Retailers sold 159,000 PlayStation 3 consoles and 170,000 Xbox 360s, researcher NPD Group Inc., said today in an e-mailed statement. Total sales of game consoles more than doubled to $286 million, NPD said.

    Both PS3 and XBOX sales have doubled after their recent price drops. It will be interesting to see if that’s a temporary spike after having captured some people who were “on the fence”, or if it is going to translate into long term.
