Rock Band Confirmed for Wii! January 31, 2008

Filed under: First Look, News — hey_suburbia @ 8:41 pm

rock band wii

It’s been rumored about 3 months ago when a GameStop employee spilled the beans, saying to a customer that “it’s officially coming.”

In a third-quarter conference call today, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that a Wii version of Rock band is forthcoming.

Riccitiello mentioned the game at the end of the call’s question-and-answer session. There was no release date given, but Riccitiello referred to the “coming launch” of a Wii version of the game.

There’s been speculation about a Wii installment of Rock Band’s since the game was announced. In April 2007, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said a Wii-specific version of the title would be coming out in the future.

After the call, IGN contacted an EA rep for more details, but all they got was a confirmation that, indeed, a Wii version of Rock Band is coming.

There’s still no release date (let alone any word on instruments or how additional song content might work on the Wii), but we’ll let you know as soon as more info presents itself.

Buying Real Copies of Wii Virtual Console Games…Ouch!

virtual console wii

This is JJ Hendricks’ first contribution to VC&G:

Since the Nintendo Wii’s release in November 2006, the Virtual Console service has been one of its most popular features. Yet almost instantly after its launch, people began complaining about how much VC games cost. The most common argument against the VC pricing scheme (aside from the illegal emulator option) is the presumed “low price” of the original games if you bought them used. But how much would it really cost to buy physical copies of all the Virtual Console games? Is Nintendo’s retro service a good deal, or are you getting ripped off?

Overall findings:
NES:
USED / VC
$273.53 / $288.00

SNES
USED / VC
$354.38 / $273.53

N64
USED / VC
$169.42 / $102.00

Lot’s more details and more stats

Thanks Benj for the tip

Smash Bros. Launches in Japan!

Filed under: News — SirVenom @ 1:19 pm

Starting Roster

Today is January 31st on the other side of the world, also known as the “Super Smash Bros. Brawl Japanese launch date!”

Assuming that there are 24 hour stores over there, many people already secured their copies (it is about 3:00 AM over there). Expect a flow of news that even Sakurai can’t keep up with in his daily updates, such as complete character rosters, full set of levels, etc.

It’s only a matter of time!

Fatal Frame screens/info

 fatal frame

The new Fatal Frame game is a major collaborative effort for Tecmo. Nintendo will publish the game and is also lending its support on the development end. Key staff members include Keisuke Kikuchi as producer and Makoto Shibata as director, both veterans of the series. But joining Shibata in the director’s cubicle is Grasshopper Manufacturer’s Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51), who recently completed work on No More Heroes.

Although a two minute CG trailer was shown at the press conference, Tecmo kept the specifics to itself. Kikuchi did reveal that the key words for the game are “memory” and “moon,” and “mask,” and that the image color for the game is yellow. He also stated that he believes the Wiimote and the horror genre to be a perfect fit.

Nintendo Australia releases numbers: DS over 1 mil, Wii catches 360

Filed under: First Look, News — Floating World @ 8:24 pm

Nintendo did horrible last gen in AU. Things are really turning around in every region it seems.

Nintendo Australia has today announced (finally) its latest sales figures for the Wii and Nintendo DS in Australia and we’re glad to report its all good. According to the GfK Australia figures, the Nintendo DS has now more than one million units sold within the 153 weeks since its launch. The Wii similarly has passed a record of 300,000 units sold in 58 weeks since launch. For comparison’s sake, the last reported figure for the Xbox 360 was also 300,000. This makes both Nintendo DS and Wii officially the fastest selling consoles to reach these milestones.
