Wii Pong: the Twilight Princess hack evolves February 13, 2008
Two days after the exploit was found in Twilight Princess, that allowed you to run code off of an SD card, a l33t programmer named Auby has been able to load an ELF version of Pong, which was originally coded for the GameCube. As of now the controls aren’t functioning, but like any demo/early hack things will just begin to expand and grow from here.
Update 1: Nintendo-Scene is reporting this morning:
The Twilight Hack released on Feb. 11, has been upgraded to alpha 1b. Now it works with NTSC consoles and games as well. Japan has to be worked out still.
Problems
If you have a USBGecko, try unplugging it from the Wii before running the exploit. There’s a bug in the USBGecko code used in the exploit that will make the game hang if you have a USBGecko plugged in to the wii, but not connected to any program on your computer.
This exploit does not work with every version of Zelda:TP. Easy way to check your version is to compare the text string which is on the inner cycle of the data surface with the ones below.
- RVL-RZDP-0A-0 JPN - working
- RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN - working
- RVL-RZDE-0A-0 USA - working
- RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA - working
- RVL-RZDJ-0A-0 JPN - not supported yet
