Commodore 64 coming to Virtual Console February 21, 2008

Adding to the already extensive VC library NES, SNES, N64, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Neo Geo, Master System and Game Gear, making Nintendo’s service a comprehensive window into the dusty annals of gaming history. International Karate and Uridium are among the first titles to be available, but with such a healthy back catalogue expect more to follow shortly.
Classics on the Commodore 64 include Geoff Crammond’s Sentinel, Head Over Heels and Jeff Minter’s Attack of the Mutant Camels, but which C64 games would you like to see ported over? Feel free to deposit your nostalgic tears in the comments section below.
Initially only available on the European Wii Shop Channel, the games will cost 500 Wii points each (£3.50). While most of this generation’s experience of the 1980’s powerhouse will be limited to a parody of its loading screen propping up the front-end of Vice City, Commodore’s console was at the forefront of 8-bit gaming and is the single best selling personal computer unit of all time.

Wait… Since when are PC Engine and Game Gear games on the VC? Did I miss something or are they just on the list of what is to come?
@scullum:
PC Engine have been on there for a long time under the name TurboGrafx - the console’s US name.
Game Gear was announced a little while ago - it’s sharing its channel with the Master System. Don’t remember when it’s launching but not long away.
I wonder if this means we’ll be getting ZX Spectrum games soon

Glad that Europeans are getting something before the USA folk

Thanks, Paul. But what do you mean the Game Gear is sharing a channel with the Master System? (we don’t have the MS in the USA…we have the Genesis) They all share the same channel (Shop Channel).
@scullum2001:
The Sega Master System was the 8-bit system that came before the Genesis (which was called the MegaDrive in the rest of the world). It was very successful outside of the US - it actually outsold the NES in Europe - and the PC Engine/Turbografx was never released in Europe so I think this is a good thing for us over here.
The Game Gear was essentially a portable Master System, sharing many of its hardware features. So, rather than create a separate channel, the VC is going to have them both in the same place.
Hope this helps, VC Reviews has a more details rundown here: http://www.vc-reviews.com/systems.
@ PaulT — Right. I was just saying that we don’t have Sega MS and GG over here in the US yet. I understand what they are. But I still don’t understand the separate channel thing. They are all sold in one channel (Wii Shop). Do you mean an actual channel on the Wii or just that they are going to all be listed under the title of Sega MS on the Shop Channel?
Dumb ass! ↑↑↑↑
@ Ash Ketchum — What?!?
Nothing…*whistles*
Ok, that’s what I thought. I’m glad that after reading mine and Paul’s convo, you realized what we’re talking about and decided your comment was completely out of line and unnecessary…not to mention childish and extremely rude. Thanks.
Im stupid like that.
@scullum2001:
Yeah, what I meant was that AFAIK when you browse the VC by system, MS and GG games will show up under the Master System title. This will also probably mean that when you’re bought them, when the icon in the main Wii menu alternates between the system name and game title, it will also show as the MS.
Those are just guesses based on what I’ve read over at VC Reviews so I might be wrong. Either way, I’m looking forward to it - I had an Atari Lynx (waaaay underrated system IMHO) so didn’t play much GG, but I loved the Shinobi game. Master System fans will probably be wanting Alex Kidd, Ys: The Vanished Omens, Choplifter and the original Shinobi. Probably more, I never owned that system myself either though a lot of friends did…
I remember that classic, I used to play and use the basic and logo languages.
