Mario Kart Wii to have text chat. February 26, 2008

Nintendo previously mentioned that it will be placing extensive focus on the online capabilities of its upcoming racing title Mario Kart Wii. In addition to the robust online multiplayer options and voice chat, the company also announced a new feature that will help bridge the lines of communication for players across the globe.
To support this claim, the publisher’s European subsidiary recently confirmed in an official Mario Kart Wii posting that players will actually be able to communicate with each other via text chat, even outside of matches.
The statement released by Nintendo of Europe mentions that “you can create rooms for friends to join and even text chat while you’re waiting for other racers”.
This opens the possibility of using a USB keyboard to help facilitate this proposed feature. Of course, the former option of using pre-selected messages will always be there, but it will be nice to talk to your friends and rivals in actual real time.
Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see how Nintendo plans to develop this interesting feature in their upcoming title. Updates on Mario Kart Wii as we get them!

hmm voice chat on the way?
This is awsome, but wait, when will Nintendo release his own keyboard?, somebody can tell me?
Interesting… wonder how this will work. Not sure I get the point, though. Although I’m still not sure how important chatting is except for co-op games anyhow. But that’s just me…
@ DC3fanboy_NL — I don’t know about Nintendo’s own keyboard, but you can use pretty much any USB keyboard (which would probably be cheaper).
Probably just for the lobby, with friends.

In addition to voice chat? Either I haven’t been keeping up with the Wii scene or this is false. I thought Nintendo was on the “No Voice Chat” side of things. Confirmation of voice chat please?
@ Kevin — I have no confirmation about MK having voice chat, but I definitely know Nintendo is not “on the ‘no voice chat’ side of things.” Look at the several DS titles that have voice chat for proof on that. Now, for Wii, we’ve still yet to figure that out yet.
Hmmm, I didn’t notice that…. I will do some research; Suburbia may be a victim of a hoax…
