Harmonix announced today that it is bringing downloadable content to the Wii and PS2 versions of Rock Band, just not in downloadable form. Instead, gamers will be able to buy a disc from retailers containing songs previously released as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 will include 20 master tracks from 20 different artists, and will retail for $29.99 when it launches July 15.

The full list of included tracks follows:

30 Seconds to Mars–”The Kill”
All American Rejects–”Move Along”
Blink – 182–”All the Small Things”
Boston–”More Than a Feeling”
David Bowie–”Moonage Daydream”
Faith No More–”We Care A Lot”
Grateful Dead–”Truckin’”

Oh, that’s cool. But how is it “downloaded” to the Wii?

  2. Gravatar xero Says:

Ok. Maybe I’ll get the game now.

    @Apollo!
I think the game works like a memory card almost. It takes the info on the disk and transfers it to the wii. Hey then the people with crappy internet can have more songs! yay for us!

I can’t help but wonder why they don’t just put up a website where you can download the file using your computer, and then transfer that file to your SD card… and upon the first time playing that song, it would record your Wii’s friend code… and from there on, it could be played off of the SD card only by the Wii that initially played it… that would prevent piracy, and allow easy downloading by simply bypassing the Wii as the downloading factor. If they made the website completely compatable with the Opera browser, you could maybe even download to your SD card using the Wii’s internet channel. Does this all just seem not possible? am I missing something? None the less, I’m glad Rockband developers are getting off their lazy keisters and trying to solve this problem instead of just giving us a lame PS2 port like it seemed to be early on. I was raging earlier one when they said it would be the same price as 360 and PS3’s but with less content… less content = lower price! common sense. Okay, sorry, I tend to get ranty on this game.

I’m so glad they are doing this, although wii and ps2 owners will not have a choice in specifically what songs they want. But at least you can add to your set list.

  6. Gravatar Stephen Miller Says:

i think that is awesome it wont exclude wii owners at all how many volumes will there be though

  7. Gravatar Jeff Q. Says:

this is a really good idea, but think about it… is 512 MB of space enough on the Wii? I don’t think so. I heard that Harmonix told Nintendo that they need some kind of external hard drive to make the downloadable content work well. Right now on my Wii I have all of my blocks filled on the Wii Menu, 7 blocks of space left and still about 50 other games on my SD Card. We need something. Maybe if Nintendo gets enough complaints they will do something. I have already complained, BTW my Wii code is 5911-6521-8982-2709 if u add me leave a reply

please people of Nintendo and Harmonix
I beg of you to either enable dowloading
    or create more expansion disks
