Nintendo releases new Wii channel on unsuspecting masses May 7, 2008

Filed under: News — Zackery @ 9:51 am

I awoke this morning bathed in a soft blue light that pulsed steadily from my Wii (none of the obvious jokes please). There is always a wonderful sense of excitement when this happens for Wii owners, the optimistic fanboy inside of us all hopes that Nintendo has unleashed some major update for the system. While many times that aforementioned fanboy is sadly disappointed, this morning his ravening hunger was finally appeased. Sometime in the wee hours of this Wednesday the 7th of may, Nintendo rolled out the “Nintendo Channel” nearly five days ahead of its scheduled release date.

This latest offering from Nintendo can be best described as a surprisingly robust game database, providing detailed information for the majority of titles released on the Wii, DS and Virtual console. Promotional videos highlighting new releases on the market provide links to the full description of the game and prominently displayed purchase button will redirect you through the Wii web browser to a distributor of your choice.

The most exciting feature of the Nintendo channel however, is the DS demo download station. Yes after what seems like an eternity of waiting it has finally arrived, no more driving to your local Best Buy just to get that new Jam Sessions demo, you can now pull it directly from the aether in the comfort of your own living room.

I dread when the next massive system update comes out. It will prevent the use of trucha signatures and delay homebrew development.

Seriously!? I was wondering what that was when I saw the light this morning, but I was already late for work, so I couldn’t check it. Now I can’t wait to get home!!
