Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero World Tour June 26, 2008
Rock Band for Wii came out on Sunday, and it’s a long-awaited title for Wii owners who are music simulation fans. Rock Band combines the fun guitar action of Guitar Hero with drum and vocal tracks, so you and your friends can form a virtual band and jam along to some great songs. However, the next Guitar Hero release, Guitar Hero World Tour, which for now is scheduled to come out on October 27, 2008, will also include drum and vocal simulations, and in many ways looks to be even more comprehensive and have more features than Rock Band.
The question is, which will you be buying (if any…or both). I for one will be getting both, for no other reason than I’m obligated to the WiiNintendo.net community to buy and try everything, at least that’s the excuse I use on my wife ;).
Wii Blog about it does a great job a breaking down each game kit, have a look and post in the comments what your plans are.

guitar hero. rock band wii is a joke. no way i’ll buy that on wii.
Ill be waiting for guitar hero, rock band seems a waste of money and space…
Guitar Hero WT obviously
I am not going to bother with Rock Band. I am going to wait for Guitar Hero as this has the online features that I am looking for. I could have lived without the DLC, but to have no online play at all was the deciding factor for me to pass on the game.
ok, just because it bugs the crap out of me every time i read it, those shiny loud things attached to a drum set are called “cymbals,” not “symbols”
But anyway, GH all the way!
Guitar hero all the way.
I would think New wii owners would get RockBand instead.
Rockband is a joke… I said it a long time ago and I’m gonna stick to it, we NEED to stop supporting these half arsed attempts at developing games for the Wii. Rockband is just a PS2 port, and we should not give these piles of dung anymore of our money.
The Guitar Hero developers went out and figured out a solution to the downloadable content mess, and I commend them for that… I will definitely be getting World Tour before I even remotely consider Rockband. I’m personally offended that Rockband was released the way it was to be honest, it’s a slap in the face to Wii owners. Also, Rockband’s guitar is HORRIBLE… I tried it at a Fred Meyer (wal-mart type store for those that don’t know) and it was just insanely akward and BAD. If Guitar Hero tops their drumset as well as they topped their guitar, then the instruments will even be far superior for GH:WT in comparison to RB.
Sorry for the novel… just tired of games like Madden and Rockband giving us lame, limited titles that look and play like a PS2 game… to quote Peter from Family Guy, “That really sticks in my craw.”
The decision is totally controlled by the European pricing. I will NOT pay more for a game than the console is worth. So I hope, that Activision does it the right way.
I have Rock Band for 360, simply because all my friends have 360s. We love playing online and just being able to go to eachother’s houses to play together. I’m probably going to get GH:WT for 360 too, just because of the crappy ports that the Wii has.
Guitar Hero, no question.
I already own Rock Band for the 360, I was really disappointed when I heard how much the wii version lacks. I will be getting Guitar Hero World Tour but only because I buy every guitar hero. Since I have a 360 I’ll be getting it for that system. I think the drums look awesome, more innovative than rock band’s. I will definitely have to cough up the cash to buy guitar hero and I feel confident they wont screw it up. They really seem to be serious about it. When I buy guitar hero world tour and get the new guitar I will finally have 2 guitars compatible with Rock Band and Guitar hero WT (first one is from GH2 for 360). I hate the rock band guitar. I am a true guitar hero veteran, but I will never put away rock band.
Guitar Hero looks awesome, while I keep hearing Rock Ban was more of a disappointment. I’ve only played it a bit, but what I’ve played seems much easier and not as fun. The only thing is that it’s different with the vocals and drums. But GHWT seems to be perfecting that and going much further. I’m not sure about buying it just yet, only because it’s a lot of money for all the peripherals and the game…but we’ll see.
Hi, I’m the author of this post from Wii Blog About It. Thanks for linking to me. I’ve just started up this blog, so please keep checking back because I’ll be adding new stuff all the time. My latest entry includes video of my dog freaking out at Wii Sports.
There’s a small chance I’ll get Rock Band for my birthday next week, but if not I’m definitely going to wait for Guitar Hero.
@xero
Thanks for catching the cymbals typo. Stupid oversight on my part. It’s been fixed.
rock band is more family/friends while GH is more skill.
for me its rock band.why , because it provides more people to plat and no tacking turns (if more than 4 people). on the other hand you dont need the actual gitar , you can use ur controller. at the end they both add up to the same (in some ways).
thx for reading, and not going away,
-who cares-
sry play
i got rockband for the wii the first day it came out and i knew bout gh4 so imgettin both cause i save my muny

I bought Rockband for Wii, and let me tell you, bad idea. First of all, the guitar stopped working after 3 weeks, and today we ordered a new one. Apparently, there have been many problems with the guitars. Aside from the faulty guitar, the ports USB ports are terrible. One of them is bent out of shape for no reason, and this damaged the drum’s cord. It was stupid of me to get Rockband when I was aware that GHWT would be released later this year. I say go with Guitar Hero.
Hey is everyone forgetting that there is a new Rock Band coming out. And most web sites are giving it better review from E3 than Guitar Hero: World Tour.
hell i got rockband first day. no way im gunna get world tour with rockband 2 comin out later in the year and me needing to buy another drum set [where the hell would i keep two?]. And the ion drum rocker looks way better than activision’s. Besides harmonix actually showcased rockband 2 at E3 and we wont need to go by interviews with activision to try to think about it. Who knows, maybe the wii wont be a downgrade piece of crap and have everything xbox and ps3 have. Comparing a game the forth in its series to the first of another is like comparing the wii to xbox.
srry for doubling but i just had to throw something else in. Rockband 2 will also contain all master tracks [no covers in other words]. And when i wrote “wii to xbox” i meant the first one even though i referred to xbox360 the first time i wrote it. The new Rockband 2 drum set will be able to support three cymbal attachments. And thanks to all of those people who said that they would buy guitar hero and gave a reason. I’m tired of people saying that “rockband is a piece of crap GH forever!”. Or something about how suckish the rockband guitars are because they have a different feel to them. If rockband came out before guitar hero we’d all be complaining about how it makes that stupid clicking noise every time you strum. I personally prefer the rockband peripherals
Guitar Hero World Tour Wii: All the features that the Xbox 360 and ps3 has like, create a rocker and create a song, and downloadable content! finally a third-party game worth getting. I like rock band a little but it on wii is so devoid of features, and it is just more realistic and guitar hero has more experence.
so i am on guitar hero’s side My band on Guitar hero world tour will be called Black Sun! se ya on wi fy!
