Wii’s running in Gamecube shell?

UPDATE:

The pictures we had on here have been comfirmed as Gamecubes.

—————————————————————–
In this thread, we know that Gamecube hardware was definiely showing Wii games at E3. So will the final graphics be much better than what we saw at E3?

There is a VERY good chance. Someone on here mentioned how much better the Game Informer pics were compared to the pics of Red Steel at E3. The GPU and PPU still aren’t finished, plus the whole design of the Wii.

In another thread someone mentioned why that Iwata didn’t show us a smaller version of the Wii. He did state it would be smaller. That could be the basis behind why they used Gamecubes to display the Wii games. They definitely don’t want to show the REAL Wii system to the public quite just yet, whether it was because it wasn’t complete yet or they are keeping it a surprise. They did show the Wii Console at E3, but it was the same size as the older pics. Plus, we really don’t have the real ATI-specs, possibly due to the redesigning of the console. I mean, if it is going to appear different, then they will probably have to adjust and try to compress all of the adapions into their new system.
Here is a pic of a “hidden” Gamecube at E3:

It’s a gamecube case. Big deal. They just jammed all the Wii electronics into it. Don’t count on a huge graphical improvement.

If Nintendo-fanboys would care as much about the Wii GFX like Sony-fanboys care about the Wii GFX… Nintendo wouldn’t need to introduce the people to such a great controller and just produce boring Sony-style-Crackwhore-vs.-Crackwhorepimp-Games instead.

    But I guess Nintendo-fanboys want something different…

Yes, the graphics chip is still in development.

How can you say that there won’t be an increase in graphical quality? Half these games weren’t even finished.

Stop being retarded, and save your judgements for when it comes out.

The fact that we are seeing a GameCube shell here proves nothing either way about the components inside. Obviously the Wii is incomplete. Look at the demo like you would any other, as an unfinished product that you will have a chance to review fully once you get your hands on it.

maybe they are using the CUbes to play some of those scrolling screen things. . I mean they have factory’s full of ‘em that way they don’t have to wire TV’s to a dvd player that would cost them to buy. & there’s all this talk of GC’s being still compatible with next gen games. I think it’s High sign someone realize the truth. Nintendo feels they are at a Hardware plateau! why come out with more advanced hardware, if your hardware tweaked for games already can doo some fancy stuff. Make a new thing, using similar architecture with say, hi-def output available & built in wi-fi & fancy controller. Would people pay an extra 150 for a new GC attachment? or make a “new thing” & you can get away with charging 200-300 & making a huge profit on people replacing their systems. Nintendo is going to win big with this idea in my opinion. I’d betcha a case of Beer I’m right, but I don’t think I’d be able to drink all that I’d win from all of ya’ll

    LOUD NOISES!!!

I’ve had it confirmed, personally, that the games on the showfloor at E3 were running on GC hardware. Believe me or don’t, but it’s true. The hardware in the Wii on release will not be an exponential increase, but will be superior while still coming in at a pricepoint of LESS than $200 US at launch.

    Mark my words.

Just checking here but do any of you realize you’re morons for the most part? Let’s get the harsh stuff out of the way first. Learn how to spell, turn off caps lock, check your capitalization and check your spacing.

For the love of shit you uneducated asses. Do any of you realize that you just verbally bashed Shigeru Miyamoto? Do you know that that can tear a hole in the fabric of space-time? The GC hardware does not have the drivers necessary to push the Wii controllers. The hardware doesn’t have the ability to run the games’ software. And the quality of the pictures provided couldn’t convince a UFOlogist that a UFO is present. How can any of you just blatantly assume that it’s a GC? Were any of you there? And who’s this source that ‘confirmed’ the situation for rankenphile?

Then there’s the pricing. Nintendo has said explicitly that they will not release pricing to *anybody*. That means they will not release pricing. Not at all. Anybody not understand that? Let me repeat it again: there is no official or even confirmed unofficial pricing information. Intelligence, which seems to be lacking from this post, would state that the Wii will cost closer to $250 – $275. The components that are being placed into the device are much more costly to produce than many of you realize.

The last point I’d like to make is that the GPU for the box is decided and development is finished. The firmware may not be finalized yet but the Wii itself is still in testing and minor hardware changes that affect the whole box are still coming down the pipe within Nintendo.

If you want to bitch like little girls do it somewhere else. If you want to have an honest discussion be honest with yourself first.

Let the nonsensical whizzing (or is that wii-zing?) contest begin. I love watching people make all these ridiculous assumptions about “how great” or “how sucky” things will be months and years before their release, when they’re not even close to finishing the product.

Here’s an idea, folks: Stop buying into other peoples opinions. Get one of your very own.

Who else cares if you do or don’t like the new console? It doesn’t make you any better than someone who disagrees. If you like Nintendo, play Nintendo. If you like Sony, play Sony. It’s not going to hurt you that someone else, somewhere else, happens to like playing the other one instead.

The GC hardware does not have the drivers necessary to push the Wii controllers. The hardware doesn’t have the ability to run the games’ software.

I take it you never read about Wii development kits from the past 6-8 months.

And the quality of the pictures provided couldn’t convince a UFOlogist that a UFO is present. How can any of you just blatantly assume that it’s a GC?

Well, I remember Alpha Dream didn’t get DS dev kits when they started Mario and Luigi 2: Partners in Time so they had two GBAs in tandem with an SNES controller.

Early GBA development used a SNES controller attached to an ARM7 board.

I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to do the same thing, tweaking the GameCube’s guts to run Wii demos. Especially since development kits WERE tweaked GameCubes.

Then there’s the pricing. Nintendo has said explicitly that they will not release pricing to *anybody*. That means they will not release pricing. Not at all. Anybody not understand that? Let me repeat it again: there is no official or even confirmed unofficial pricing information.

They never reveal pricing at E3 as far as I can recall.

Intelligence, which seems to be lacking from this post, would state that the Wii will cost closer to $250 – $275. The components that are being placed into the device are much more costly to produce than many of you realize.

Getting a GPU manufactured en masse actually costs less than buying a Graphics Card off of CompUSA. Consumers pay more for a product at retail than a business pays for same said product at wholesale or manufacturing. Same applies for all the motion sensor technology.

The thing is that such technology costs more because it’s a hard sell. If Nintendo can make the technology sell, they have to pay the company first to get the tools and build game around it. Since it’s a much higher userbase than if it was on PC, sales are more guaranteed and don’t have to cost $449 or so.

Technology for a mass market, especially in Nintendo’s case where mainstream videogames are a booming business, can afford to become cheap.

Not to mention that the price on technology goes down if…

    1. Said technologies become obsolete, and if Nintendo’s GPU is based on the X1000 Radeons, that would mean the timing for the system is perfect as that architecture would be obsolete, therefore a lower price is realistic

    2. Said competitors spend so much on chips that the price is able to go down. Sony spent so much money on IBM and Microsoft spent so much money on ATi. Nintendo would easily afford technology that is on a middle ground if their competitors went ape over buying high-end parts.

    3. Moore’s law. Take it or leave it.

The last point I’d like to make is that the GPU for the box is decided and development is finished.

Oh, so you must be a developer.

Maybe you can elaborate why ATi was happy to talk about the 360’s GPU in detail and even go far as to give us a Ruby demo and why they were coy with the Wii’s GPU at E3 2006. You can’t can you? Maybe it’s because you missed the part where the spec sheet mentions the Hollywood is “BEING developed with ATi.” and not “Supplied by ATi”, the former suggests that the GPU ISN’T complete, however the CPU is.

The firmware may not be finalized yet but the Wii itself is still in testing and minor hardware changes that affect the whole box are still coming down the pipe within Nintendo.

The Wii isn’t due for mass production until this fall, if we’re lucky; August. NEC needs ATi to finish the GPU because it’s integrated on the LSI. NEC is the one who produces the LSI and guess what? It’s going in mass production sometime AROUND THE 3RD QUARTER OF 2006!

Piss off buddy, this isn’t about Miyamoto who’s been dissed, it was Genyo Takeda (Nintendo’s Tech Guy) who was being insulted because you didn’t know the man could pull off sick things like making 2 GameCubes run in SLi/AMR fashion.

It was likely running on dev kits, not gamecubes. The case is similar, but in reality the guts are quite different.

Also, [riceing has been dealt with to a degree. they have said 2 things.

the first is that it will be significantly cheaper then the other 2…no problem there. thats cake.

the second thing that has been stated BY NINTENDO about priceing is that it will not exceed $200. Look at the past. Every nintendo console ever has launched at $199.99…why change that now? Well, unless they wanted to be ‘revolutionary’ with their priceing and make it like, $20 for the system itself…that would certainly throw a wrench in the works for sony and microsoft…
