Family Trainer, info, screens, video May 13, 2008

Filed under: First Look, Videos — hey_suburbia @ 11:00 pm

The game includes the specially designed Family Trainer mat controller which, when combined with the Wii Remote, lets players get totally physical in a series of crazed challenges. Unlike other games for the Wii which only focus on the arms, Family Trainer gets the feet involved too for total body gameplay. Simple controls and intuitive play make the game easy to just pick up and play, and let players of any age get involved, get physical and have maximum fun.

There are over a dozen frantic single and multiplayer challenges to choose from all based on outdoor challenges amusingly interpreted for the world of Family Trainer, such as river rafting, mine karting, log jumping, rope skipping and much more. The activities take place in a variety of colourful locations including jungle forests full of ancient ruins, a haunted mansion complete with hordes of zombies, and a fairytale world where riding on toys and floating amongst the clouds is the order of the day.

Players can challenge friends or family members on the same mat, or cooperate together, for example trying to balance a runaway mine kart as it hurtles round a gravity defying track. Players can track their progress and set new records for their friends and family to beat, bringing a dose of healthy competition into the madcap mix.

New screens and video from EA’s Skate

Filed under: Exclusive, First Look, Videos — hey_suburbia @ 10:34 pm

Prepare to experience a new kind of skateboarding game as Electronic Arts reintroduces last year’s Skate title with a new spin off on the Nintendo Wii and DS platforms. Entitled Skate It, the game will make use of the innovative controls from both platforms and integrate it with the intuitive FlickIt control system from the previous title.

While it may not be considered as a direct sequel of the first Skate game, Skate It does provide the same kind of hardcore skateboarding action with its own unique spin integrated into its intuitive control system.

Defend Your Castle Review and Gameplay May 12, 2008

Filed under: News, Reviews, Videos — hey_suburbia @ 2:21 pm

Visually, the game looks great. Small touches like the changing weather, as well as the unit variations, come together to make a very visually appealing package. The game has a lot of charm here and looks like the imagination of a 4-year-old child. If there’s any landscape we wanted to pay home to our exploits of defending a castle from countless hordes of enemies, it’s here.

For a 500 Wii Point game, you’d be insane not to give Defend Your Castle a download. The game is fun, very accessible and has almost no learning curve. We can’t comment on the mutliplayer, but if the single-player is any indication, it will deliver there, too. XGen Studios have created a great WiiWare offering and we’re sure your life will be better for having downloaded Defend Your Castle.

Line Rider 2: Unbound Wii - Act 1 in Action May 9, 2008

Filed under: First Look, Videos — hey_suburbia @ 12:23 pm

IGN:

All in all our first experience with Line Rider 2 was a very positive one, and while there were a few changes we’d like to see (such as the somewhat strange Wii interface for level creation), the game runs at a smooth pace, and is a blast to play. Story mode may look simple, but there’s a lot of depth to be had, and it’s great to see TechDawg brought on board to bring a hardcore Line Rider’s perspective on the experience, so you know all the nuances of the game like nose riding will still be included.

Speed Racer, Just Like F-Zero?

Filed under: Exclusive, First Look, Reviews, Videos — hey_suburbia @ 12:31 pm

A unique racing game experience developed for the Wii in part by the movie directing duo, the Wachowski brothers. The game is designed as a game that players can build their own racing track, and it also has a “choose-your-own-adventure” aspect that presents the experience as a series of choices that the player must make in gameplay.

In Speed Racer, players take on the role of the characters from the film, getting behind the wheels of each character’s signature vehicles to experience firsthand the film’s high adrenaline, combative racing style. The car-fu style of action within the game closely represents the action style designed by the Wachowski brothers for the film.

Reviews:

NintendoWorldReport, 75/100
Speed Racer at its core is an amazing game, with great depth, control, and nice difficulty progression. Perhaps Sidhe Interactive will use this great engine (and maybe even the Speed Racer license) for another title with more inspired track design, better graphics, and a more fully-featured package overall.

GamePro, 75/100
For what it is, with voiceovers from the actors, what I imagine is probably movie soundtrack, and some excellent-looking, swift racing with seriously fun combat stunts, Speed Racer: The Videogame is awesome.

GameTap, 60/100Speed Racer is a decent racing game, but it never gets your adrenaline pumping. Even the movie connection doesn’t juice up the show. Also, unlike most racing for Nintendo systems, only two players can race in split screen mode, and there’s no online mode at all.
